Ming Lam is our new Sikumik Qaujimajjuti Teaching Assistant. He is a graduate student at the University of Calgary. Ming’s research involves remote sensing monitoring of Arctic sea ice and snow, and assists in teaching several GIS courses at the university. As part of his field of work, Ming has travelled to communities within Nunavut. Ming will be supporting the Sikumik Qaujimajjuti program that teaches SmartICE community coordinators the mapping and remote sensing skills to create sea ice travel safety maps for their communities from an Inuit knowledge perspective. Ming will help co-teach our northern team members and develop new tools to streamline the mapping process.
