Who we are

Ice is vital to life in the North as it connects communities and serves as a highway and hunting platform. But with ice conditions becoming less predictable, ice travel risk has increased for northern communities.

SmartICE is a community-based Work Integrated Social Enterprise (WISE) offering climate change adaptation tools to integrate Indigenous knowledge of ice with advanced data acquisition, remote monitoring and satellite mapping for ice travel safety. We embrace a social enterprise business model that aims to expand opportunities for economic and social development in northern Indigenous communities while supporting cultural practices and livelihoods.
